DIY: Outdoor Sensory Trail

Why is an outdoor sensory trial beneficial?

Outdoor sensory trials are easy, fun, and interactive outdoor activity for all ages. Outdoor chalk sensory trials require two items including chalk and a hard surface to draw. These trials can promote bilateral coordination, crossing the midline, motor planning, hand-eye coordination, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and social skills. This activity promotes creativity and ideation for targeting higher executive functioning skills.

What can be included in a DIY sensory trial?

  • Hopscotch

  • Straight of curved line for balance

  • Hand and foot jumping

  • Figure 8 or infinity walk

  • Frog jumps

  • Jumping jacks

  • Bear walk

  • Crab crawl

  • One and two foot jumps

  • Cross crawls

  • Run and walk sections

  • Swirls
